Gondia (Maharashtra) [India]May 18 (ANI): Tibetan refugees residing in Norgyeling Tibetan Refugee Resettlement Camp in Maharashtra’s Gondia district gathered at their camp offices in the early hours of Wednesday.

The occasion marks the anniversary of one of the darkest chapters in Tibetan history since its forced relocation from Tibet in 1959 due to China’s relentless and widespread attempts to sinicize its motherland.

On May 17, 1995, a 6-year-old boy named Gendeng Choekyi Nyima disappeared from Tibet. What makes him special and even sacred is that he is the eleventh Panchen Lama, a very holy and revered figure in Tibetan Buddhism.

The reason for his disappearance is that China tried to use the 10th Panchen Lama as their lackey, but he disobeyed and publicly defied the Chinese government, embarrassing them on the international stage.

The Chinese government, cautious and disregarding basic human values, captured the 11th Panchen Lama and there is no trace of him to this day. Although some images of him were generated by artificial intelligence, no success was found in finding him, and he has become one of several mysteries that originated and ended in China.

The international community calls him the youngest political prisoner, who may become a dissident of the CCP every year. The resolve of the Tibetan community to address the disappearance of the Panchen Lama remains steadfast year after year. Faithful to the teachings of the Buddha, they have been protesting peacefully.

The activity was held under the auspices of Tashi Tsering, vice chairman of the Tibet Autonomous Region Youth Congress and member of the Tibet Autonomous Region Women’s Federation. In addition, representatives of local councils also participated in the meeting. Senior members addressed those gathered at the local monastery to pray.

In their speeches, leaders of various groups called on fellow refugees, especially young people, to devote themselves to the cause of the Panchen Lama’s release and exhorted them to work tirelessly and peacefully. The event highlighted the historical and religious importance of the Panchen Lama and prayed for Tibetans who have self-immolated for the Tibetan cause. People are determined to tackle this problem with renewed vigor. Despite the heat wave at the camp, there was a large crowd of seniors and women. (Arnie)
