WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (PTI) — President Joe Biden told Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a conference call on Tuesday that the “landmark” Air India-Boeing deal will be expanded across 44 U.S. states. Create up to 1 million jobs.
In announcing the Boeing-Air India deal on Tuesday, Biden asserted that he, along with Prime Minister Modi, looks forward to deepening ties between India and the United States.
According to the White House announcement, Boeing and Air India have reached an agreement under which the airline will purchase 190 B737 MAX, 20 B787 and 10 B777X, a total of 220 firm orders worth $34 billion, priced at $34 billion.
The deal will also include customer options for an additional 50 Boeing 737 MAXs and 20 Boeing 787s, for a total of 290 aircraft at a total list price of $45.9 billion.
Biden spoke to India’s Modi to discuss the “landmark” agreement.
The purchase will support more than 1 million jobs in 44 U.S. states, many of which do not require a four-year college degree, Biden said on the call.
Air India’s order is Boeing’s third-largest ever by dollar value and second by number of aircraft.
During the call, the two leaders also reaffirmed the strength of the U.S.-India relationship and pledged to continue working together, and in groups like the Quartet, to promote economic growth in both of our countries and on our shared priorities expand cooperation.
The announcement follows the first launch of the US-India Critical and Emerging Technologies (iCET) program last month.
The initiative aims to expand strategic technology partnerships and defense industry cooperation between the governments, businesses and universities of the two countries.
