World News: At least 17 dead, several missing after Hurricane Ian hits Florida News

[ad_1]

Let’s take a look at what’s going on in the “world now”.

Hurricane Ian left a devastating trail on its way through Florida to the Carolinas.
At least 17 people were reported dead and many missing after the hurricane battered the state with strong winds, rain and storm surge starting Wednesday.
The combination has flooded homes, cut roads, and left more than 2.6 million Floridians without power.
As of Thursday, rescue teams had been working to rescue thousands of people trapped in their homes.
The airport will remain closed until Friday, and some areas are struggling to distribute food and water.
Hurricane Ian is now moving toward South Carolina after charging over the Atlantic Ocean.
It initially weakened to a tropical storm as it moved through Florida, but has since intensified to a Category 1 hurricane.
Hurricane warnings were issued for the entire coast of South Carolina.

Workers laid down their tools and took to the streets of France on Thursday as several unions called for a nationwide strike.
They called for higher wages amid rising prices.
Unions include school teachers, train and bus drivers, and people working in the nuclear industry. The strikes have led to disruptions in schools, the transportation sector, and even a drop in nuclear power production.
It was the first major strike since French President Emmanuel Macron won re-election in April.
The union also called for the scrapping of a reform planned by President Macron to raise the legal retirement age from 62 to 65.

Myanmar’s ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been sentenced to three years in prison.
On Thursday, a military court found in a closed-door ruling that she violated the country’s Official Secrets Act.
She already faces 20 years in prison for a series of cases, with more trials to come.
The former elected leader has had multiple charges thrown at her by the ruling generals, since being overthrown in a military coup in February 2021
Meanwhile, Aung San Suu Kyi’s former economic adviser, Australian Sean Turner, was also sentenced to three years in prison on the same charge.
Australia’s Foreign Office rejected the ruling, calling for Turnell’s release.
So far, the details of their alleged breach remain unknown.

Finally, a car driven by James Bond was filmed for $3 million in the recent “Double Seven” movie.
An Aston Martin DB5 replica stunt car sold at Christie’s on Wednesday appears in No Time to Die.
One of only two such cars in the world, it features replica machine guns in its headlights.
The car is just one of 35 James Bond-themed lots for sale, which include other cars, accessories and apparel from the 60-year-old franchise.
The auction will run until October 5, James Bond Day.
Proceeds will be donated to charity.
