New Delhi [India]November 24 (ANI): At the invitation of National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Indonesian Senior Minister Dr Mohammad Mahafod will visit Delhi next week.
Dr. Mohammed Mahfud is the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs of Indonesia. He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation from the Ulema.
On November 28, Ulema from Indonesia will also interact with his Indian counterpart. Discussion will revolve around “The Role of the Ulema in Promoting a Culture of Interfaith Peace and Social Harmony in India and Indonesia”.
“The ulema play a very important role in Islamic society and the purpose of such discussions is to bring together the Indian and Indonesian ulema and countries that can advance cooperation to promote tolerance, harmony and peaceful coexistence and to combat violent extremism and radicalization. Scholars come together,” a source told ANI
Three sessions will be held, the first on Islam: Continuity and Change, the second on Harmonizing Interfaith Societies: Practice and Experience, and the last on Combating Radicalization and Extremism in India and Indonesia.
During the visit, the ulama from Indonesia will also interact with leaders of other faiths.
It is reported that NSA Doval will deliver opening and closing speeches and a joint statement at the end of the visit.
Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world and India is home to the second largest Muslim population in the world.
In March, NSA Doval visited Indonesia to participate in the second India-Indonesia Security Dialogue. NSA then invited Minister Mehfud to visit India. (Arnie)
