PHILADELPHIA, May 12 (AP) — One of two inmates who escaped from a Philadelphia prison Thursday night was caught wearing women’s clothing, federal authorities said.

Members of the U.S. Marshals Service’s Fugitive Task Force are conducting surveillance in an area of North Philadelphia where they believe Nasir Grant, 24, is staying, said Robert Clark, a supervisory deputy with the Eastern District of Pennsylvania Marshals Service.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m., a man who looked like Grant “came out of the residence in full female Muslim attire and hijab,” Clark told reporters.

Grant got into a car, and authorities followed and stopped him nearby.

“I believe he was very surprised,” Clark said, adding that Grant was taken into custody without issue.

“He obeyed our orders and it was almost a peaceful arrest, the way we like it,” Clark said.

The Philadelphia Department of Corrections said the search continues for 18-year-old Ameen Hurst, who escaped with Grant from the Philadelphia Industrial Correctional Center Sunday night by digging a hole in the fence surrounding the casino.

Clark described the search for the two men as “exhausting”, with all team members working 16 to 18 hours a day. Arresting Grant will allow the task force to focus on hunting Hearst, he said.

The men were assisted by a woman in the city who has been charged with escape and conspiracy, authorities said Thursday.

A judge set a $500,000 bond for Xianni Stalling, although prosecutors seeking a $2 million bond are appealing that ruling. She was arrested by U.S. Marshals around 1 a.m. Wednesday. She is represented by the public defender’s office, which declined to comment.

Hearst and Grant were gone for nearly 19 hours before officials learned they were missing.

Hearst was charged with four counts of murder, while Grant was being held on drug conspiracy and weapons conspiracy. The inmates were housed in the same unit but in different cells, officials said.

Authorities said Thursday there was evidence Stalling was communicating with an escaped inmate, but declined to comment further. She was also charged with obstructing an arrest and using communication facilities. (Associated Press)
