RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 29 (AP) — Brazil’s federal police arrested four people on Thursday accused of trying to break into police headquarters in the capital Brasilia earlier this month.
The suspects, most of them supporters of President Jair Bolsonaro, also vandalized a police precinct and set fire to several cars and buses, authorities said.
As part of “Operation Nero,” police began executing 11 arrest warrants and 21 search and seizure warrants in several states, including Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, police said at a news conference on Thursday.
Brazilian authorities have been faced with outbursts of violence following Bolsonaro’s loss in the Oct. 30 election to President-elect Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Dozens of people tried to break into BrasÃlia police headquarters on the night of Dec. 12 with the aim of rescuing pro-Bolsonaro indigenous leaders who had been arrested earlier in the day, authorities said.
After being thwarted, the crowd began to spread across the city, carrying out a series of acts of vandalism.
Authorities made no arrests that night and have since been investigating those involved under the supervision of the Supreme Court, which oversees the case.
Police said most of the people targeted by Operation Nero had at some point frequented the pro-Bolsonaro camp outside the military headquarters in Brasilia.
