WORLD NEWS | California faces more rain, storms and potential flooding

[ad_1]

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 7 (AP) — California is bracing for more stormy weather, with rain expected to sweep across the northern part of the state Saturday, increasing the chances of road flooding, swollen rivers and mudslides.

Rain is expected in the Bay Area on Saturday, followed by a brief dry spell on Sunday and more intense storms on Monday. The National Weather Service issued flood warnings for large swathes of northern and central California, with 6 to 12 inches (15 to 30 centimeters) of rain expected Wednesday in the foothills of the Sacramento area.

In the Los Angeles area, light rain is expected over the weekend and stormy conditions are expected again on Monday, with up to 8 inches (20 centimeters) possible in the foothills.

Wet weather came after days of rain in California from a Pacific storm. A recent spate of weather systems left thousands without power, flooded streets, battered coastlines and killed at least six people.
