At the same time, Reuters quoted the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Transport as saying that France also requires passengers from China to show the results of the new crown virus test within 48 hours before departure.

All flights from China, including stopovers, are required to undergo a Covid test and passengers are required to wear masks.

France will conduct random PCR Covid tests on some travelers from China from Jan. 1, as mandatory testing will take “some time,” according to Reuters.

The United States earlier said it would require all tourists from China to present a negative Covid-19 test before boarding a flight to the country, CNN reported Wednesday.

With telehealth services, the test can be a PCR test or an antigen self-test.

“The international community is increasingly concerned about the ongoing COVID-19 surge in China and the lack of transparent data reported by China, including virus genome sequence data,” the officials said, using the acronym for the People’s Republic of China, Reuters reported.

India has also made RT-PCR testing mandatory for travelers from five countries including China.

Speaking to ANI, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said: “International arrivals from China, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand are required to undergo RT-PCR testing. Upon arrival, if any passenger from these countries is found to be symptomatic or Test positive for Covid-19 infection, then he/she will be quarantined.”

Noting the rising number of COVID cases globally, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Friday that the center and states need to work in a “synergy” and “spirit of collaboration” as in previous surges.

Meanwhile, Japan has also introduced mandatory COVID-19 testing for travelers from China starting Dec. 30 due to the increase in the number of confirmed cases in China, Kyodo News reported on Tuesday.

In November, the local outbreak of COVID-19 in China hit a record high. Due to the deteriorating epidemiological situation, the authorities imposed a partial lockdown in some areas, while also mandating daily PCR tests for their residents.

In particular, restrictions have been tightened in several major Chinese cities, including Beijing and Shanghai, starting Nov. 24. (Arnie)
