Earlier, Daan Bahadur Mara, the police officer of the bureau, reported that two Chinese citizens had lured and trafficked 10 Nepalese youths. He said further investigations were underway and it was suspected they were sending more Nepali youths abroad.
Two Chinese nationals suspected of human trafficking have been sent to prison for pre-trial detention. He said Nepalese citizens who supported the effort had been investigated, epardafas.com reported.
The two accused Chinese nationals had both lived in Nepal on business visas for five years, and one of them was an IT engineer who was married to a Nepalese woman. The bureau’s investigation further revealed that they used Nepali agents to transport people from Nepal to Thailand, and then trafficked them to Laos in vehicles.
At the beginning, they sent people from Nepal to Laos, greedily wanting to do marketing in Laos, with a monthly salary of 1,000 to 1,500 US dollars.
After placing them in an IT company in Laos, the victims said they were asked to open a fake social network to connect people in different countries and convince them to invest in bitcoin.
According to epardafas.com, police superintendent Mara said the Chinese national had initially collected Rs 390,000 from the victim and was not even paid for the work he had done after arriving in Laos.
The victims also said that many Nepalese trafficked by the Chinese are still waiting in Laos for rescue.
According to the bureau, the investigation is ongoing. Police arrested the two Chinese nationals based on separate complaints of trafficking from three women and seven men.
The survey also revealed that priority will be given to dispatching victims who understand Chinese and English. At the same time, some young people who finished high school in Kathmandu began to contact the Chinese with the greed of earning dollar wages.
According to epardafas.com, the lure of high salaries drove them from Nepal to Laos.
Afterwards, although they worked for what the Chinese said they were, they were hired to do illegal work.
After working for two months, they returned to Nepal on November 11 with the help of their relatives. The victim then lodged a complaint with the bureau on November 16, and based on the same complaint, the police arrested Chen Yang in Thamel, Kathmandu on November 24.
Another defendant, Ruan Chaohong, fled after learning that Yang was detained.
After learning that he had fled, the police stepped up surveillance at all checkpoints and successfully arrested him on the morning of November 25 at Tribhuvan International Airport, where he was about to depart for Bangladesh.
After all necessary investigations by the police and arguments by the Kathmandu District Court, the court remanded both of them in custody on 20 December.
According to epardafas.com, the police said that many Nepalese sent by China were taken hostage in Laos and rescue efforts were underway. (Arnie)
