Washington, Feb 9 (PTI) Indian American Congressman Ami Bera has been elected as Ranking Member of a key House Foreign Affairs Sub Committee that handles the Indo-Pacific region.
Last November, Bera, 57, was re-elected as a member of the US House of Representatives from the Sixth Congressional District of California. He is the highest-ranking Indian-American member of the House of Representatives and currently has five in the 118th Congress Such MPs.
In the 117th Congress, he chaired the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, Central Asia, and Nonproliferation, where he spearheaded efforts to revitalize U.S. relations with allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific region.
“I am proud to continue serving as a senior member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s Indo-Pacific Subcommittee. The Indo-Pacific region remains the most important region in the world to our national security, economic interests and values,” Bella said in a statement Wednesday explain.
“I am committed to working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to address the many challenges facing the region, including the People’s Republic of China’s aggressive and coercive actions, the urgent need for post-pandemic economic recovery, and the regression of democracy and human rights,” he said.
“I look forward to continuing to help lead the bipartisanship of the subcommittee in support of a freer, open, and prosperous Indo-Pacific,” added Assemblyman Bella.
