Pakistan has issued an alert to enforce strict mask wearing until April 30.

According to the NIH, the NCOC made its selection based on the COVID-19 disease patterns across the country at the time. The recommendation comes after the national positivity rate increased to 2.98%, Geo News reported.

In January, Pakistan confirmed one of the three dominant strains of COVID-19 and the Omicron subvariant XBB.

NIH officials also reiterated that there is no imminent threat of any major COVID-19 wave in Pakistan, Geo News reported. (Arnie)
