Kathmandu [Nepal], Dec 3 (ANI): The Communist Party of Nepal-Maoist Center has decided to leave all options open to government formation and is keen to lead the new government. The decision was taken at a meeting of party officials in Kathmandu on Saturday.
“We will not destroy the alliance, but we have decided to keep all options for forming a government,” Krishna Bahadur Mahara, vice-chairman of the Nepal Maoist Center and former speaker of the parliament, told reporters after the meeting.

Asked if the party was willing to form an alliance with the opposition Communist Party of Nepal-United Marxist-Leninists (UML), Mahara said, “We have decided to keep all options open, but we have not decided that we will leave or break the alliance.”
Once the results are announced, a full analysis of the party’s performance will be conducted, he said. After the elections held on 20 November, the CPN-M Center raised the demand for the post of Prime Minister.
Out of the 165 electoral districts that received the most votes, 163 electoral districts have announced the election results, and the Nepalese parliament has won the most seats.
The CPN-Maoist Center won 17 seats and came in third. Nepal’s parliament won 55 seats, while CPN-UML won 44 seats under the FPTP system.
Proportional representation counting is still underway, with CPN-UML taking the lead. However, it will remain in second place as the Nepalese Congress will lead in the number of parliamentary seats.
It is worth noting that no political party has won a majority in Nepal’s parliamentary elections, forcing parties to form a coalition to form a government. With the Nepal Maoist center claiming the top job, there has been speculation it will again form an alliance with the opposition UMLM to lead the government.
The leader of the opposition UML suggested that party chairman KP Sharma Oli trust the Maoist center to lead the government.
Meanwhile, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, former Nepali prime minister and chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center, reiterated at a briefing on Saturday that the party’s performance in the November general election was weaker than expected.
“We didn’t perform as we expected in the House, but we did well at the provincial level. We were expecting a good result when we ran the coalition campaign, the House was projected to have 30-plus seats, our expectations were low Between 10-12 seats.”
Pushpa Kamal Dahal said, “This is because the vote on the Nepali Congress side has not taken place and the number of independent candidates has increased,” Pushpa Kamal Dahal said, according to an official who was present at Saturday’s meeting. (Ani )
