World News | Defense minister meets French defense minister to discuss bilateral defense cooperation

New Delhi [India]November 29 (ANI): Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Armed Forces Minister of the French Republic Sebastien Le Konou attended the 4th annual India-France Defense Dialogue in New Delhi on Monday.

During the meeting, issues of bilateral, regional, defense and defense-industrial cooperation were extensively discussed. The Indian and French defense ministers recalled the continued military cooperation that has increased significantly in recent years. They also discussed ways to enhance maritime cooperation and increase the scope and complexity of bilateral exercises, according to a statement from the Indian Defense Ministry.

They noted that India and France successfully held a bilateral air exercise ‘Garuda VII’ at the Jodhpur airbase. During the dialogue, one of the key areas discussed was defense and industrial cooperation, with a focus on ‘Make in India’, according to the MoD statement.

Future collaborations and potential co-production opportunities were also discussed during the conversation. Ministers agreed that technical groups from both countries should meet early next year to advance key cooperation issues. The Ministers recognized their common ground on a number of strategic and defense issues and worked together to strengthen cooperation in bilateral, regional and multilateral fora, with a focus on the Indo-Pacific region.

France is the current chair of the Indian Ocean Commission (IOC) and the Indian Naval Symposium (IONS), and the two countries work closely on these issues, the Ministry of Defense said. One-day tour to Southern Naval Command Headquarters with a visit to INS Vikrant, India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier.

The minister said he was “very impressed” with the INS Vikrant.

France is one of India’s most trusted strategic partners and the two countries look forward to celebrating the 25th anniversary of their strategic partnership in 2023. (ANI)
