New Delhi [India]May 29 (ANI): 10 people were arrested as the FIR registered a number of Sri Lankan nationals for their alleged complicity with agents who attempted to “deceive Indian immigrants” to facilitate their passage to Canada through New Delhi airport.

Those arrested included Mahenthiraraja, a Chennai-based special agent who is a Sri Lankan Tamil, police officials said.

“They were asked to show their identities, but they did not. After suspecting them, they were taken to the police station for verification,” a police officer said on Monday.

Investigations revealed that the men were told to arrive at Chennai airport, where an agent “will handle everything needed to get them to Canada,” police officials said.

The men arrived at Chennai airport on different days and Mahenthiraraja arrived at the airport on Sunday, police said.

They were all taken to a hotel in Delhi Paharganj and later to Aerotropolis, the police official said, adding that the agents told the men they could not fly to Canada “due to some problems today” and Ask them to go to the hotel.

“They all wanted to go to Canada by deceiving the Indian Immigration Service. The case has been registered, ten people have been arrested and further investigation is underway,” a police official said. (Arnie)
