World news, especially from the US, can be irritating at times

[ad_1]

I’m going to go internationally today to solve some problems in the United States.
First, I disagree with President Biden’s current refusal to supply Ukraine with F-16 fighter jets. I say it now because the Biden administration said no to other weapons before and backed down.
First came advanced weapons systems that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky wanted but was rejected, then air defense systems, and finally tanks.
The Ukrainians ended up getting all of that, so I think Biden should stop playing the game and allow them to use the F-16 immediately.
Other NATO countries have F-16s they can offer, but the U.S. government must approve the sale or transfer of F-16s from partner countries to third-party countries.
It should.
Biden said that as long as Russia is defeated, the United States will persist. That being the case, provide the F-16.
Ukrainians are not just fighting for their own survival in a war with Russia, because if they lose, Russian leader Vladimir Putin believes he is free to attack and co-opt other countries that were once involved. former Soviet republics.
As far as I’m concerned, the US and NATO are obligated to support Ukraine, because I believe Putin clearly wouldn’t have invaded the ground if the US and NATO hadn’t made it clear that “they wouldn’t be wearing boots” if Putin attacked. “
There is a faction, mostly Republicans, that wants to cut U.S. support for Ukraine. But it should be noted that this support, as it comes from all NATO countries including Canada, is really just financial support. We are just bleeding, and Ukrainians are bleeding for all of us, on the battlefield and in civilian areas.
There are lessons to be learned from World War II here. If Hitler had been stopped sooner, there would not have been such a war. Stopping Putin now would end the expansionist dreams he harbors.
Moving on, I found myself yelling at the TV when CNN anchor Don Lemon was interviewing David Ricks, CEO of Eli Lilly and Co., an Indianapolis-based company that makes the insulin product Humalog and Humulin.
The company has announced that it will limit patients’ out-of-pocket costs for the product to $35 per month, down from $98. The company also said that on May 1, it would lower the list price of a generic insulin it sells to $25 a vial from $82.
“The big price reductions we’re announcing today should have a real impact on Americans with diabetes,” Ricks said.
Lemons basically applauded the move.
The American Diabetes Association even took action, applauding Lilly’s move and saying it encourages other insulin makers to follow suit.
That’s a huge cost reduction for consumers who need the product, but the reason I’m yelling at Lemon is that he didn’t ask what I thought was an obvious follow-up question.
Why is the cost in the US still so much higher than in other countries?
CNN has produced a graph showing these costs. I haven’t had a chance to replicate it, but I found another showing Americans paying $98.70, Chile $21.48, Mexico $16.48, Japan $14.40, Switzerland $12.36, Canada $12 and Germany $11.
On the lower end, costs are $6.94 in Australia, $6.14 in Hungary, $5.28 in Poland and $2.64 in Turkey.
The cost in America is still ridiculously high, and Lemmon does his audience a disservice by not asking Ricks why.
At $98 Big Pharma is literally deceiving the public. It’s still $35. How is this allowed?
Now coming to Missouri, the Republican-controlled House of Representatives recently rejected a proposal that would have banned children from openly carrying firearms in public without adult supervision.
The proposal, part of a debate on how to fight crime in St. Louis, was defeated 104-39, with just one Republican voting for the ban.
State Rep. Donna Baringer, who represents St. Louis and sponsored the crime bill amendment, said police in her district are demanding tighter policing to stop “14-year-olds from walking down the streets of St. Louis with AR-15s.” middle.”
“Now they’re emboldened and they follow them,” Baringer said. “Until they actually wave them, and wave them with intent, our police hands are not handcuffed.”
“Government should prohibit conduct that directly causes measurable harm to others, not activities that we merely suspect may escalate,” Toni Lovasco, who represents the St. Louis suburb of O’Fallon, said in a statement. “While it is reasonable to be wary of minors carrying firearms, any solution to youth crime needs to be well designed and respect individual rights.”
Concerned about minors carrying guns? Do not make jokes. I sometimes think some of these open carry states want to go back to the old west when everyone has a pistol strapped to their belt.
That’s bad enough, but asking any kid to pack one is utterly ridiculous. Instead of settling after-school arguments with fists, is it now a shootout?
Now to the food. The Bidens went out to dinner, and the two ate the same pasta. Horror, if you listen to or read mainstream media.
Both CNN’s Morning Show and The Washington Post recommend that couples choose different meals when they dine out.
nonsense. If both like and want the same dish, go for it.
Biden gets enough criticism that it doesn’t even come down to what he and his wife order at restaurants.
