GUATEMALA CITY, May 27 (AP) – Guatemala’s supreme court on Friday rejected the candidacy of another presidential candidate, this time ending poll leader Carlos Pineda’s campaign over alleged violations of electoral law Activity.

The Constitutional Court rejected Pineda’s appeal after electoral authorities ruled he was ineligible a month before the first round of voting on June 25.

Pineda is the third presidential candidate to be ruled ineligible. On Thursday, a court rejected candidate Roberto Arzú’s final appeal, having previously ruled against Thelma Cabrera over paperwork issues with her running mate.

Some observers have accused Guatemala’s electoral authorities of using the judicial system to shrink constituencies to candidates acceptable to the establishment.

Pineda, a conservative populist who launched a campaign that has garnered a splash on social media, unexpectedly came out on top in opinion polls earlier this month.
