SEOUL, Jan. 20 (AP) — About 500 South Koreans were forced to flee their homes as a fire spread through a low-income neighborhood in southern Seoul on Friday morning, destroying at least 60 homes.
Firefighters are controlling the blaze in Guryong village and there have been no reports of injuries, officials said.

Shin Young-ho, an official with the Gangnam District Fire Department in Seoul, said rescuers were continuing to search the area affected by the fire, but all residents there were believed to have been evacuated safely.
More than 800 firefighters, police and civil servants were dispatched to fight the flames and evacuate people after the fire broke out at around 6.30am.
Photos from the scene showed firefighters battling flames as helicopters sprayed water from above in a cloud of thick white smoke that blanketed a village known for its dense rows of makeshift homes.
Shin said the fire was presumed to have started at a house in the village that was constructed of plastic sheeting and plywood. He said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
About 500 residents have been evacuated to nearby facilities, including the school gymnasium, said Kim Ah-reum, an official at the Gangnam-gu office. Officials plan to move residents to nearby hotels later. (Associated Press)
