WASHINGTON, March 22 (PTI) — The opening of the new consulate complex in Hyderabad will open new vistas for India-US relations, with the region playing a key role in the bilateral strategic partnership, a State Department official said on Tuesday.

On Tuesday, the US Consulate General in Hyderabad opened a new state-of-the-art facility in the city’s bustling financial district.

“In short, this dynamic region plays a key role in the U.S.-India strategic partnership, and our new consulate in Hyderabad represents a tangible U.S. investment in our growing bilateral relationship,” State Department deputy spokesman Wayne Vedant Patel, told reporters at a press conference here.

“This move brings our government closer to US companies investing billions of dollars in India’s tech, defence, aerospace and pharmaceutical industries,” he said.

Five of the most valuable companies in the world, Apple, Microsoft, Google, Amazon and Meta hosted their largest operations outside the US in Hyderabad. “Our consulate in Hyderabad is the linchpin connecting the US with businesses and people in the Indian states of Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Odisha,” he added.

“We continue to welcome Indian tourists, businessmen and students from these states and this new facility will allow us to increase the consular services of the Indian Mission in the future. The new facility has a project budget of $340 million and respects the local landscape. Through the Cultural Preservation Ambassador Fund , we are working with local partners to protect historic sites,” Patel said.

“The new space will help consulate staff work with local journalists. It will increase coverage of climate change and share information on educational opportunities. The new consulate in Hyderabad will also host countless tourists as our military is regularly in the field Joint exercise. Indian Eastern Naval Command,” he said.
