vienna [Austria]20 June (ANI): As the overall Chair of the Wassenaar Arrangement, India hosted a technical briefing for over 20 outreach partner and participating countries at the Enhanced Technical Briefing (ETB) in Vienna.
Arindam Bagchi, Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), tweeted: “An important initiative by India as the Chair of the Whole Wassenaar Arrangement! India hosted more than 20 outreach at its Enhanced Technical Briefing (ETB) today Partner countries and participating countries are in Vienna. Five years later, the WA ETB shares national implementation experiences and the latest developments in export controls.”
India assumed the Chair of the Wassenaar Arrangement Plenary on 1 January for a one-year term.
At the WA 26th Annual Plenary Meeting in Vienna from 30 November to 1 December, Ireland handed over the chairmanship to Jaideep Mazumdar, India’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations and International Organizations in Vienna.

India has also become a member of the Wassenaar Arrangement on the Control of Exports of Conventional Arms and Dual-Use Goods and Technologies, demonstrating the country’s progress in geopolitics.
India joined the Wassenaar Arrangement on December 8, 2017, becoming its 42nd participating country.
The Wassenaar Arrangement is a multilateral export control regime that, through the regular exchange of information among members on transfers of conventional arms and dual-use goods and technology, seeks to increase transparency and greater accountability for such transfers, and to prevent destabilization accumulation.
The Wassenaar Arrangement Plenary is the Arrangement’s decision-making body and operates on the basis of consensus. (Arnie)
