Foreign Minister Jaishankar Jaishankar and Maldives Foreign Minister Abdullah Shahid attended today’s handover ceremony on Nonumanadhoo Island. As part of Jaishankar’s visit to Male, Maldives and India exchanged many important MoUs in various fields.

“At the ceremony, External Affairs Minister Shahid and External Affairs Minister Dr Jaishankar also witnessed the handover of two maritime ambulances from the Government of India to the Maldives Ministry of Defence, a project under the High Impact Community Development Project programme, ” the Maldives government said in a statement.
The Ministry of Defense of Maldives has procured two marine ambulances as part of the close cooperation between India and Maldives under the India Grant Assistance Programme. A total of 6.2 million rafia was allocated to the Maldives for the purchase of marine ambulances.
The scope of the project is to procure two new marine ambulances to strengthen the healthcare system in the Maldives. It will also facilitate inter-island travel for patients in emergencies. The government of Maldives thanks the government of India for providing the marine ambulance.
Jaishankar is visiting Male to sign agreements related to bilateral development cooperation, groundbreaking/inauguration/handover.
In today’s ceremony, Foreign Minister Ahmed Khaleel and Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar exchanged a Memorandum of Understanding between Maldives and India to provide R100 million in additional grant assistance for the High Impact Community Development Project Programme.
The foreign minister said that all Indian projects in the country follow the tenets of India’s development cooperation approach, which emphasizes transparency and competitive pricing.
“It goes without saying that all these projects follow the fundamental principles of the Indian approach to development cooperation which emphasizes transparency, full participation, host country ownership and competitive pricing,” he said. (Arnie)
