WASHINGTON, Oct. 19 (PTI) — Friends of America Helping Ages India has received a $1.3 million grant from the MetLife Foundation to improve conditions for older adults in Bihar, West Bengal and Pondicherry.

The grant will support ‘Project Saksham’ of AFHI’s partner organisation HelpAge India, which has been serving the needs of vulnerable older adults in India for over 44 years.

“This project will enable HelpAge India to provide practical and comprehensive digital and financial literacy training to over 16,000 seniors so that they can access government benefit schemes and use digital financial services in a safe and confident manner,” the media release said.

HelpAge India will also provide comprehensive training and financial support to start or grow their economic activity and access to high-quality primary health care services – a holistic model that ensures the empowerment and dignity of older persons.
