New Delhi [India]November 29 (ANI): India and Indonesia have highlighted the role of the ulema at a meeting in the national capital on Tuesday.
Both countries say the ulema play a vital role in spreading education to Muslims and combating radicalization and extremism.

National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, speaking at a conference on the role of the ulema in fostering a culture of interfaith peace and social harmony, expressed concern over cross-border and Islamic State-incited terrorism, saying Both India and Indonesia are victims of separatism and terrorism.
Regarding the bilateral relations between the two countries, Doval said that India and Indonesia are important allies with extensive economic and cultural ties. Both countries play important roles in the Indo-Pacific region and are thriving economies, he added.

Among the dignitaries present at the event, Indonesian Minister of Political, Legal and Security Affairs Prof. Dr. Mehmet Mafud said that the ulama has made great contributions to promoting a culture of interfaith, peace and social harmony. He also called on everyone to work together to build a harmonious society.
Mahfud arrived in India on Tuesday for an official visit at the invitation of NSA Doval. His visit will end on 1 December.
The delegation accompanying Mafud included Indonesian ulama leaders, officials from the Coordinating Ministry of Political, Legal and Security Affairs, and officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
Mahfud and Indonesian Ulema visited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held talks with Foreign Minister Jaishankar and Doval.
Doval had earlier visited Indonesia in March 2022 to participate in the “Second India-Indonesia Security Dialogue” and invited Mahfud to visit India.
Indonesian ulama participated in a conference organized by the Islamic Cultural Center of India. The event also saw the participation of leading Indian ulamas.
Indonesian delegation will visit Agra on 30 November. (ANI)
