World News | India strives to build ties based on mutual sensitivity, respect and interests: Jaishankar on China

[ad_1]

Washington [US]Sept 29 (ANI): India will continue to maintain a relationship with China based on “mutual” sensitivity, respect and interests, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar said on Wednesday.

Jashankar made the remarks in response to a question about how Beijing has consistently commented on how “good” relations between the two countries are.

“In my opinion, what I have said represents an accurate policy assessment of the state of our relationship. We continue to work hard to build a relationship with China, but one based on mutual sensitivity, mutual respect and common interests,” Jia Shan said. Carr made a strong statement at a media briefing.

Minister Jashankar, who is in the U.S. for the recently concluded annual U.N. General Assembly, is now in Washington with his U.S. counterpart Anthony Blinken and other senior officials in the Biden administration.

Meanwhile, Chinese Ambassador to India Sun Weidong said that the situation on the India-China border is “generally stable” and that the two sides have shifted from “emergency response” after the conflict in the Galwan Valley in June 2020 to “normalized management and control”.

Asked how he reacted to Weidong’s comments, Jashankar replied: “I think if the spokesperson of the foreign ministry has something to say, I would urge you to look at the comments of the spokesperson of the foreign ministry of the corresponding country.”

Jashankar’s remarks clearly contradict China’s position on the overall normality of India-China relations.

Just as Jashankar was speaking at a United Nations Security Council (UNSC) meeting on Ukraine, he slammed China without naming him. Referring to Beijing’s decision to prevent terrorists from being added to the list, Jashankar said: “Fighting impunity is critical to the broader pursuit of peace and justice. The Security Council must send a clear and unequivocal message on this. Politics will never be Cover should never have been provided to evade responsibility. Nor was it actually facilitated impunity. Sadly, we saw this in this chamber recently, when sanctioning some of the world’s most feared terrorists. If in broad daylight The appalling attacks perpetrated by our country go unpunished, and the Council must reflect on the signals we are sending with impunity. We must be consistent if we are to ensure credibility.”

A day after the UN Security Council comments, Jashankar and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met briefly for a photo at a BRICS gathering in New York last week and created an awkward “unease”. There have been no bilateral meetings between the foreign ministers of the two countries.

A similar embarrassment occurred when Prime Minister Narendra Modi stood beside Chinese President Xi Jinping at the recent Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, with no exchanges between the leaders of the two countries.

After more than two dozen rounds of diplomatic and military talks, India and China have withdrawn their front-line troops from both sides of Pangong Lake, Gogra and Hot Springs. However, there is no forward movement on other friction points such as Demchok and Depsang.

After the standoff in eastern Ladakh, India has always maintained that peace along the Line of Actual Control is the key to the overall development of relations between the two countries, and that the state of the border will determine the state of the relationship between the two countries. (ANI)
