World News | Indian Air Force to participate in Pitch Black 2022 in Australia

Darwin [Australia]25th August (ANI): The Indian Air Force (IAF), along with participating air forces, has participated in a number of missions in the first phase of Black Exercise 2022 in Australia.

In a tweet, the Indian Air Force said various scenarios involving different platforms were simulated during the exercise.

“During the first phase of #ExPitchBlack22, #IAF teams participated in multiple missions with participating Air Forces. Various scenarios involving different platforms were simulated,” the IAF tweeted.

An Indian Air Force contingent arrived in Darwin, Australia, on Friday for Exercise Pitch Black 2022, hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

The exercise was originally scheduled for 2018, but the COVID-19 pandemic canceled all plans, and after a four-year hiatus, the exercise was rescheduled this year, according to a statement released by the Department of Defense.

“The IAF task force, led by Captain YPS Negi, consists of more than 100 air combat personnel, deploying four Su-30 MKI fighter jets and two C-17 aircraft. They will conduct multi-domain air combat missions in complex environments and The best will be exchanged to practice with participating Air Forces,” according to the statement.

PBK22 is the Air Force’s biennial international exchange event with key strategic partners.

This year’s participants include Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, India, Japan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Philippines, Republic of Korea, Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and United States.

Notably, Germany, Japan and the Republic of Korea will fully participate for the first time.

PBK22 director engagement team captain Peter Wood said he was delighted to see Pitch Black return after an extended break, adding.

“Participating in Exercise Pitch Black from abroad in the Indo-Pacific and further afield provides personnel of all nations with experience using aircraft, systems and work practices in the unique environment of northern Australia that would otherwise be unfamiliar,” said Captain Wood of Group Say.

The exercise is a bi-annual three-week multinational large-scale force deployment exercise conducted primarily at RAAF Darwin and RAAF Tyndall. RAF Amberley, near Ipswich, will also take part in this year’s exercise.

Practice Pitch Black will run from August 19th to September 8th, 2022. (ANI)
