WASHINGTON, Dec. 9 (PTI) — An Indian citizen pleaded guilty in court on Thursday to entering the United States illegally after he was deported two years ago.
Ashok Kumar Prahladbhai Patel, 40, could face up to two years in prison. Sentencing is scheduled for April 5, 2023.
According to court documents, Patel, an Indian national, appeared before U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials at St. Croix’s Henry E. Rollson Airport on Nov. 24, 2021, to fly him to Lauder, Fla. Pre-boarding screening in Fort Dyer.
During the inspection, Patel presented a forged Florida driver’s license, the Justice Department said.
Officers then conducted a database query that showed Patel was arrested and detained by CBP on August 17, 2019, in Tecate, California, and processed for expedited removal.
Patel was subsequently deported from the US to India on November 21, 2019. The news released by the media stated that Patel did not obtain the express consent of the Attorney General or the Secretary of Homeland Security to re-enter the United States after being deported.
