“Thousands of Indian students who returned from China after the COVID-19 outbreak may now have a chance to resume their education soon, as the first group, including many of these young people, may soon travel to neighbouring countries,” the Chinese ambassador Wei Dong said August 13th.
“The Chinese side welcomes Indian students. The first batch of Indian students will resume their studies in China in the near future,” Wei Dong, Chinese ambassador to India, said in an interview with ANI. “The relevant departments of the two countries are working together.”
The Chinese side said in July that China has made progress in facilitating the return of Indian students to China, and is cooperating with relevant departments to strive for the first batch of Indian students to return to study abroad as soon as possible. Chinese universities cannot return to China for classes due to restrictions caused by COVID-19.
Earlier, when Indian Foreign Minister Jashankar met with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during the G20 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, he also emphasized that it is necessary to speed up the promotion of Indian students to return to their home countries for classes as soon as possible.
In order to facilitate the return of Indian students to China, Jashankar met with Wang Yi on March 25.
The Indian embassy in China stated that in early April, China had expressed its willingness to consider facilitating the return of Indian students to China on the basis of needs assessment. (ANI)
