United Nations, 30th November (PTI) As India prepares to chair the UN Security Council in December, the country’s Special Envoy, Ambassador Ruchira Kamboj, met with Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and General Assembly President Cioba Korosi and discussed priorities in their During his presidency of a powerful institution.

India’s 2021-2022 term on the council ends on December 31, and Kamboj, India’s first female permanent representative to the UN in New York, will sit on the chair this month. India will also take over the one-year G20 presidency from 1 December.

Fighting terrorism and reforming multilateralism will be one of India’s main priorities during its presidency of the UN Security Council, culminating in its two-year term as a non-permanent member of the 15-nation powerful body.

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar will travel to New York on December 14 and December 15 to chair the Security Council’s “signature event” on reforming the new direction of multilateralism.
