WASHINGTON, 6th June (PTI) India and the United States have just announced an Enhanced Strategic and Defense Partnership (INDUS-X) that will see the industry further promote India’s role as a cybersecurity provider in the Indo-Pacific region, said President of the US-India Business Council Atul Keshap said.

USIBC will host the inaugural INDUS X conference on June 20-21 at the American Chamber of Commerce in partnership with the US Department of Defense and the Indian Ministry of Defense.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced the launch of a new defense initiative between the two countries called INDUS-X after their meeting in New Delhi on Monday. Initiative on behalf of India to strengthen the strategic and defense partnership with the United States of America.

Ambassador Kesharp, who previously served as charge d’affaires ad interim at the U.S. embassy in New Delhi, said on Monday that Austin’s visit reflected accelerated integration among the world’s oldest and largest democracies.

“We believe that the continued progress of technology launches under iCET (Initiative on Critical and Emerging Technologies) and entrepreneurial linkages established by the INDUS X Defense Innovation Bridge will enable industry to further promote India’s role as a cybersecurity provider in the Indo-Pacific region ,” Keshap said in a statement.

“These discussions reinforce the growing importance the US government places on India as a major commercial and defense partner,” he said.

USIBC applauds India and the US for developing a new roadmap for US-India defense industry cooperation.

“Our USIBC membership includes the world’s top defense companies producing advanced defense platforms that can enhance Indian and US capabilities in border security, maritime domain awareness, space situational awareness and more. This power helps ensure create an effective deterrent,” he said.

Keshap welcomed supply chain security agreements and reciprocal defense procurement agreements, key calls from industry during iCET’s initial public-private consultations launched at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in January, and Keshap said these were important steps in the development of a highly trusted ecosystem that would enable the private sector to Be more ambitious.

Keshap said the inaugural INDUS-X conference could foster a richer co-development and co-production culture between our two countries, accelerating the exchange of technology, knowledge and trust between our two strong democracies.
