JERUSALEM, Dec. 22 (AP) Designated Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced late Wednesday that he has successfully formed a new coalition, laying the groundwork for his return to power as the most right-wing head of Israel’s government ever.
Netanyahu made the announcement by calling President Isaac Herzog on the eve of the midnight deadline. His Likud group released brief video clips of Netanyahu smiling and recordings of conversations.
The move comes after weeks of surprisingly difficult negotiations with his partners – who still need to hammer out a power-sharing deal with Netanyahu’s Likud party.
