Karachi [Pakistan]March 12 (ANI): One person was injured after a raging fire engulfed a 16-storey building in Sharea Faisal, Karachi’s main artery, on Saturday night, officials said, Geo News reported.
The fire started showing up on a billboard on top of the building. Authorities confirmed that more than a dozen fire engines and two snorkels were at the scene of the fire, along with several water tankers and two water trucks to meet water needs.

Witnesses at the scene said there were people on the eighth floor of the building, called the Portway Trade Centre, next to a gas station. According to Geo News, fire department personnel noted that the building housed multiple offices.
The fire, which was classified as a Category 3 fire by fire tenders, broke out in a billboard on top of the building before engulfing the building, sources said.

According to the chief fire officer, the blaze is largely contained and firefighters are working to gain access to the building, Geo News reported.
Law enforcement officers, including police and rangers, were at the scene to maintain order. A gas station adjacent to the building and the Shahrah-e-Quaideen bridge were also closed, officials said.
Fire officials confirmed that “the fire on the lower floors of the building has subsided,” adding that efforts were underway to extinguish the raging fire on the top floors with the help of snorkels, Geo News reported. (Arnie)
