Khyber Pakhtunkhwa [Pakistan]Dec 24 (ANI): Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Mahmood Khan said the parliament has not been dissolved but if Pakistan Justice Instigation (PTI) chairman Imam Lan Khan asked him to do so, and he could be disbanded.
“Due to new developments in Punjab, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Parliament was not dissolved. Both parliaments were supposed to be dissolved at the same time, but due to the new political situation in Punjab, that did not happen,” Khan said.
He further added that he was awaiting instructions from Imran Khan and “we will follow whatever instructions he gives us.” Mahmood Khan said he would hand over the government as soon as he asked.
Apart from Mahmood Khan, PTI leaders are confident of sweeping the province’s general election based on their performance, Geo News reported.
Imran Khan announced the dissolution of the Punjab and Kimberley provincial councils earlier, apparently in an attempt to put pressure on the coalition government of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) to call early national elections.
Imran Khan has been accusing PDM leaders of avoiding elections, saying they knew PTI would sweep the polls with transparency. In KP especially, the entire PTI leadership wants Imran Khan to let the provincial government complete its term as it has launched many projects in the province.
Earlier in Punjab, the Lahore High Court (LHC) reinstated PML-Q leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi as Punjab chief minister, Dawn reported.
The court’s decision came after Elahi assured the court that he would not dissolve the provincial assembly. In its ruling, the court also reinstated the provincial cabinet.
The court issued the orders after a five-member bench accepted Elahi’s plea to challenge the order of Punjab Governor Balighur Rehman to cancel his notification to act as provincial chief executive. Chaudhry Parvez Elahi filed the petition after the Punjab governor appointed him as Punjab chief minister on Thursday to prevent ousted Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan from dissolving parliament.
During the court session, Elahi made a promise that he would not dissolve the provincial council until the next hearing, Dawn reported.
“If I and my cabinet are reinstated, I will not send the summary of the dissolution of parliament to the governor until the next hearing,” Zafar read the pledge aloud in court, according to Dawn newspaper.
After submitting the undertaking, the court rehabilitated Elahi as CM of Punjab and asked the accused to submit a reply at the next hearing scheduled for January 11, 2023. Speaking to media outside court, Elahi’s son Moonis Elahi said PML-Q respected the judiciary.
“We will seek a vote of confidence and we will dissolve parliament on the same day,” Muniz Elahi was quoted as saying by Muniz Elahi on the same day. (Arnie)
