In a statement released by the State Department on Tuesday (local time), Blinken said that when he was named my nominee, he benefited greatly from Miller’s intelligence, political experience and deep understanding of foreign policy.

“Matt stepped up again during the early months of Russia’s further invasion of Ukraine, took leave to join the National Security Council, and led our whole-of-government communications and outreach efforts as part of our support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and national defense,” Blinken said. .”

Blinken said Mueller’s previous stints as director of the Justice Department’s Office of Public Affairs and spokesman for Attorney General Eric Holder made him “no stranger to navigating and communicating about the complex global challenges we face today.”

Blinken also thanked Chief Deputy Spokesman Vedant Patel for serving as Acting Speaker and Chief Deputy Spokesperson.

“Matt, along with Vedante and other members of the Speaker’s Office, will continue to deliver on the department’s commitment to access to information and transparency,” Blinken said.

Miller succeeds Ned Price, who Blinken said in a statement last month will be leaving to work directly for Blinken.

Price will begin serving as State Department spokesperson on January 20, 2021.

Blinken said Price began hosting the department’s daily news conference within days of taking the job and has held more than 200 news conferences since then.

“Ned began as spokesman on January 20, 2021. Within days of assuming the role, he resumed the State Department’s daily press briefings, giving reporters the opportunity to ask tough questions about our policies on a regular basis, ’ said the U.S. Secretary of State.

Blinken said: “Ned has a firm understanding of the policies behind our messaging, which makes him more effective in his work. On a personal level, I have always benefited from his advice, as have many members of the department .Luckily, I will be able to continue to do so because Ned will continue to serve at State University, working directly for me.”

He noted that Price has been the face of U.S. foreign policy, displaying extraordinary professionalism and integrity. He also thanks Ned Price for his excellent service. (Arnie)
