The World Press Publishers Association (WAN-IFRA) will host the World News Media Conference on Wednesday 28thth – Friday 30th Zaragoza, Spain, in September. His Majesty the King and Queen of Spain has been appointed Honorary President of the event, which is organized by WAN-IFRA in association with publishing groups Henneo and Zaragoza Tourismo.
The event will be attended by 800 journalists, editors and news media executives from 70 countries and six continents, including approximately 100 speakers. The programme includes three main conferences, including the World Media Leaders Summit, the Women in Journalism Summit and the World Editors Summit, the latter of which showcases a major workshop on sustainable climate change journalism.
Additionally, throughout the event, there will be a strong emphasis on finding formulas to protect the future of independent journalism. Publishers will share successful reader revenue strategies that combine a strong product thinking focus with innovative advertising solutions.
Attendees will also address worrisome challenges to press freedom around the world and support initiatives aimed at promoting greater diversity and inclusion for news organizations and their journalism.
For Fernando de Yarza López-Madrazo, President of WAN-IFRA, hosting the congress in his hometown of Zaragoza means a lot. “Ever since I was elected to lead WAN-IFRA in 2019, I have wanted to share Aragon with the global media community, and show the vitality of independent local media. But the pandemic disrupted our plans,” de Yarza said.
“This year, under the leadership of King HM Felipe VI of Spain, the great defender of the global free, independent, diverse and pluralistic media ecosystem, we are finally ready to host an extraordinary event and great attendance.”
