WINDSOR LOCKS (USA), June 11 (AP) — Environmental officials in Connecticut have killed a moose prowling the grounds of a major airport.

The moose was spotted prowling a road at Bradley International Airport Friday morning. Officials decided to release the animal, citing safety concerns for air travelers and drivers on nearby highways.

“When moose roam high-traffic areas, such as airports and public roadways, it can become a public safety issue, and both DEEP and airport personnel have the authority to euthanize moose if deemed necessary,” said DOE spokesman James F. Le (James Fowler) said. and environmental protection said in a statement.

The animal never breached the fence protecting the airport’s runway, so no flights were affected. The animal was not injured. It is unclear why the animal could not be moved. DEEP did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Sunday.

DEEP estimates there are 100-150 moose in Connecticut.

Airport spokeswoman Alisa Cisic said officials have been monitoring wildlife threats in the area and “have a comprehensive strategy in place to ensure the airport is prepared to handle any wildlife-related situation.”
