Kathmandu [Nepal]December 24 (ANI): Nepal’s Ministry of Health and Population on Saturday warned the public about the emergence of a new COVID-19 variant, BF.7, and advised people to wear face masks in public places.
So far, no new variant of Covid-19 has been confirmed in Nepal, the Ministry of Health said in a press statement. However, the Himalayan country also needs to be more vigilant due to its growing influence in neighboring countries.

“The new variant of COVID-19, BF.7, spreading in neighboring countries has not been confirmed in Nepal so far. However, there is a risk of this infection due to open borders and movement of people as is the case in Nepal, so there is a need for public vigilance and awareness to carry out prevention and control,” Nepal’s health ministry said.
As Nepal has suffered huge economic losses due to infection with COVID-19, all mechanisms of the federal government, provincial and local agencies should be mobilized for identification, prevention and treatment, the ministry said.

It added that fever measurement, antigen testing and genetic testing are currently being conducted in Nepal on suspicious travelers from international checkpoints and airports to identify, prevent and treat COVID-19.
Due to Christmas and New Year, the Ministry of Health has also called on people to adopt health standards such as mandatory use of masks, physical distancing, hand washing and regular use of sanitizers.
The Ministry of Health is also asking the general public who have not yet received an additional “booster” against COVID-19 to get vaccinated at the nearest health facility. (Arnie)
