ISLAMABAD, April 22 (PTI) Pakistan Army Chief General Asim Munir said on Saturday that the military is ready to deter any external threat as he visited the western region of Bajaur on the border with Afghanistan, Celebrate Eid with soldiers deployed in troubled areas.

General Munir offered Eid prayers in Bajaur and praised the high morale of the soldiers, according to military media.

He said the military was committed to securing the border and was ready to thwart any external threats.

“For the defenders of Pakistan, no matter the terrain or the weather, despite being far away from loved ones, responsibility is paramount. There is nothing more sacred than guarding the borders of our beloved country,” he said.

The army chief also vowed to rid the country of the scourge of terrorism.

Pakistani army chiefs often celebrate Eid with border soldiers.

Bajaur is located in Malakand, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.

It is home to the outlawed Pakistani Taliban movement (TTP), which has been responsible for rising attacks on officials of the country’s law enforcement agencies.

In November, the TTP canceled an indefinite ceasefire with the government in June 2022 and ordered its militants to carry out attacks on security forces.

Pakistan wanted the Afghan Taliban to stop using their territory against Pakistan by expelling TTP operatives when they came to power, but they apparently refused to do so at the cost of tense relations with Islamabad.
