Earlier this week, it was revealed that the suspect was a mechanical engineering graduate from the University of Nottingham – the university that Kumar and Weber were studying at the time of the killing.

He holds dual citizenship of Guinea-Bissau in West Africa and Portugal, and has settled in the UK by virtue of his Portuguese citizenship.

Nottinghamshire Police said they did not believe the suspect’s links to the university were a factor behind the incident.

Nottinghamshire Police Constable Kate Meynell said: “We are acutely aware of the deep emotions and heightened concern being felt around these tragic events, not just in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, but across the country.”

“However, posting biased information online about an ongoing case could constitute contempt of court and, in the most serious cases, risk losing a trial,” she said, cautioning reporting restrictions because suspects have been indicted.

The families of medical students Grace, Dr. Sanjoy Kumar and Sinead O’Malley joined other victims’ families in a quiet vigil at the site of the stabbing, which occurred early Tuesday.

Grief has raged since the attack, including several vigils, with cricketers wearing black armbands and a moment of silence for the victims at the first ashes test at Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium on Friday .
