World News | Pakistan betrays Russia, supplies arms to Ukraine

[ad_1]

Moscow [Russia]Dec. 23 (ANI): Although relations between Pakistan and Russia are said to be improving, Islamabad is reportedly supplying weapons and ammunition to Kyiv, Ryavan, according to a report published by Geo-Politik citing a Russian portal.

Islamabad appears to have profited from the Russo-Ukrainian war by supplying Ukraine with much-needed ammunition. Pakistani companies are also taking advantage of the ongoing conflict to maximize profits and expand operations in the country that borders Ukraine. Notably, Kestral’s CEO Liaqat Ali Beg traveled to Poland, Romania and Slovakia in May and June 2022.

Islamabad was allegedly part of an air bridge supplying weapons to Ukraine, the report said. It was apparently using defense suppliers and contractors operating abroad to get the goods to Ukraine. The report further revealed that the UK is using Pakistan’s Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi as an important base for transporting military equipment for the Ukrainian army.

The report comes as Pakistan-Russia relations are warming up. On the one hand, Russia has agreed to supply Pakistan with at least 100,000 barrels of crude oil per day at discounted prices, while Islamabad, on the other hand, is supplying weapons and ammunition to Ukraine, Geo-Politik reported.

Islamabad-based arms supplier M/s DMI Associates approached Bulgaria-based company M/s Defense Industry Group to facilitate the supply of manufactured defense stores to the Ukrainian government. Meanwhile, Slovakia-based defense company M/s Chemica allegedly contacted Pak Order Factories’ ammunition supplier M/s Kestral on behalf of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense, the report said, citing reliable sources.

Surprisingly, Ukrainian company M/s FORMAG contacted Pakistan’s M/s Bluelines Cargo Pvt Ltd to deliver gloves for their army, Geo-Politik reported.

Pakistani shipping and brokerage company Project Shipping is also expected to send a consignment of weapons and ammunition, including mortars, rocket launchers and artillery shells, to Poland from Karachi.

Although this is not a unilateral deal like the return of weapons supplies to Ukraine. Pakistan has requested Ukraine’s assistance in servicing and repairing the ‘TV3-117VM engine’ used in the Mi-17 helicopters of Zaporozhye-based Ukrainian Joint Stock Company (JSC) ‘Motor Sich’. Since it has been an enterprise of the Ukrainian government, it has taken control of it because of “military necessity”. According to Geo-Politik, the company has been engaged in the production of aircraft engines and industrial marine gas turbines.

Pakistan-Ukraine military ties go back nearly three decades. According to the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Ukraine supplied Pakistan with weapons worth nearly $1.6 billion in 2020. In the 90s, Ukraine provided Pakistan with 320 T-84UD tanks for $600 million. (Arnie)
