Lahore [Pakistan]Nov 27 (ANI): Pakistani Islamist party Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) chairman Sirajul Haq has demanded the government to root out the interest-based economic system, warning that protests will erupt across the country if demands are not met, Dawn Week Six reports.
Speaking to JI staff in Mansoorah on Friday, he said the government must instruct banks to withdraw their appeal against the Federal Sharia Court ruling on interest.

According to Haq, when he opened the State Bank of Pakistan, Quaid-i-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah gave clear instructions to adopt the Islamic economic model, and he also claimed that the profit-based economy violated the constitution.
JI leaders also expressed dissatisfaction that seven decades on, the authorities still have not moved in this direction.

Haq also urged the Pakistani government to implement the Riba amnesty program and base its tax policy on Zakat and Ushr. He added that the International Monetary Fund (IMF) manages the country’s economy, while the national curriculum was created by Western non-governmental organizations (NGOs). According to Dawn, he claimed that nothing would change about the country and its economic crisis in the presence of these status quo defenders.
At the same time, Pakistan is in deep economic crisis. The PTI government has been accused of failing to control inflation while the rulers were in opposition.
