Islamabad [Pakistan]April 8 (ANI): A man was killed on Friday after two remote-controlled explosions occurred in succession next to a watchtower under construction in Harnai district of Khost town, Dawn newspaper reported.

The man was seriously injured by the first explosion and he eventually succumbed to his injuries. Another explosion occurred as nearby workers gathered around the blast site, but no casualties were recorded.

According to officials, the explosion was caused by the use of an improvised explosive device (IED) by unidentified criminals.

“The improvised explosive device was placed near a watchtower that was under construction,” a Levies official said, adding that a civilian identified as Muhammad Usman was critically injured after Dawn reported die.

He was transferred to a hospital in Harnai but died of his injuries before receiving any treatment.

Security personnel and coal miners working in the nearby area rushed to the scene shortly after the explosion. As they gathered there, there was another explosion. However, no deaths were reported from the second bomb.

“It appears the perpetrators detonated two improvised explosive devices using remote controls,” the Levies official added, adding that an investigation into the incident was ongoing.

The blast partially damaged a watchtower that was under construction. According to the “Dawn” report, security forces have started a search operation in the area to find the unidentified elements. (Arnie)
