[ad_1]

Ramallah (West Bank), Aug. 18 (AP) A Palestinian teenager was killed and dozens more in clashes with Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank, Palestinian medics said earlier Thursday. Injuried.

18-year-old Wasim Khalifa was killed and 35 Palestinians were injured in the northern West Bank city of Nablus, emergency services of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society said.

It is unclear what sparked the violence. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

Israel has conducted nearly daily arrest raids in the West Bank aimed at cracking down on so-called militant networks, following a spate of deadly attacks inside Israel in the spring. Attacks have often sparked confrontations with stone-throwing Palestinians or exchanges of fire with militants.

Israel occupied the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war and built dozens of settlements that now house nearly half a million Jewish settlers.

Palestinians want the West Bank, where nearly 3 million Palestinians live under Israeli military rule, to be a major part of their future state.

The last serious, substantive peace talks ended in failure more than a decade ago. (Associated Press)
