Prime Minister Modi’s second address to a joint session of the US Congress is historic. He is the first Indian prime minister to do so twice.

Globally, Prime Minister Modi is second only to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as head of government, who has served as head of government three times.

This honor bestowed upon Prime Minister Modi demonstrates the bipartisan respect and support for him in the United States.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell and House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said in a message to PM Modi: “In your speech, You will have the opportunity to share your vision for India’s future and address the global challenges facing our two countries.”

Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit the United States on June 22 at the invitation of President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden.

The letter further stated that Modi’s “historic speech to a joint session of Congress seven years ago left a lasting impact and greatly deepened the friendship between the two countries”.

The letter also quoted Prime Minister Modi’s final speech: “Our relationship is ready for an important future. The shackles of the past have passed, and the foundation of the future is firmly in place.”

“Once again, we are honored to invite you to a joint session of Congress celebrating the enduring friendship between the United States and India. We look forward to continuing to work together to build a better future for our country and the world,” the letter said wrote.

Meanwhile, the White House said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US would be an opportunity to reaffirm the deep, close partnership between the US and India. (Arnie)
