ARLINGTON (U.S.), Aug. 14 (AP) Two people remained in critical condition Saturday after a car crashed into a bar and restaurant in northern Virginia, injuring more than a dozen people, authorities said.
The crash at the Fourth Courthouse in Arlington, Ireland, on Friday evening also sparked a blaze that was quickly extinguished, according to media reports.

A total of nine people were taken to the hospital, two in critical condition, and six others were treated at the scene and released, according to the Arlington County Sheriff’s Department.
Arlington police said an initial review showed that the driver of the vehicle was a carpool driver and had a passenger at the time of the accident. They said the driver fled into the restaurant from busy Wilson Avenue, about 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) from the D.C. line. Both the driver and passenger were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries, a police news release said.

Mary Reilly, who works at the bar, said she was at the back of the building when “we all heard a loud bang, an explosion, so as soon as I turned around, I saw all the debris flying towards the back of the bar.”
About 30 customers and staff were at the bar when “pure panic broke out,” Riley said, and people rushed out from behind. On-site law enforcement officers evacuated people and provided emergency care.
Arlington County Police Chief Andy Payne said: “There is no doubt that the decisive action of the arriving police officer who rushed directly into the building and removed the customer saved lives.”
While the building is structurally sound, it cannot be immediately reused, the release said. (Associated Press)
