World News | Pollsters issue notice to Imran Khan over ‘disparaging remarks’ directed at watchdogs

[ad_1]

Islamabad [Pakistan]Aug. 20 (ANI): Pakistan’s top electoral body has issued a notice to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) head Imran Khan over his use of “” Intemperate and contemptuous speech”.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday also issued a circular for other PTI leaders and former ministers, directing them to appear at the commission’s office in Islamabad, either in person or through a lawyer, on August 30, Dawn reported.

Pollsters accused former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran of making unfounded allegations against the ECP and its chief in speeches in July and August, the report said.

Imran and his supporters expressed strong opposition to the ECP and its chairman, repeatedly calling for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Sikander Sultan Raja. They even claim that PTI won the Punjab vote despite the use of state machinery in favor of PML-N.

Pakistan’s former prime minister last month urged Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja to resign after a sweeping Punjab polling victory, saying his party won the election despite abusing the state apparatus.

Pakistan’s ruling PML-N party lost the provincial government of Punjab after Imran Khan’s PTI won a decisive 20-seat by-election. Khan’s PTI won 15 seats, while PM Sharif’s PML-N won just 4 seats.

Imran Khan insisted in a public speech after his victory in Punjab that early elections remained the only solution to the country’s current woes, Dawn reported.

The PTI chief said the CEC did its best to get the polls to support Shehbaz Sharif’s PML-N.

“I’m disappointed with the Chief Electoral Commissioner. How could he let this happen? He’s not eligible to run [the Election Commission of Pakistan] and leaning towards political parties. Raja should resign immediately. “

In response to Imran Khan’s allegations, the ECP notice reads: “You [Imran] Deliberately and deliberately vilify, ridicule and slander the Committee and its members in order to make the Committee and its members hateful in the public eye, otherwise it is an attempt to prejudice. “

According to Dawn, Pakistan’s electoral body considers the remarks to be derogatory and contemptuous under its rules and regulations.

It also denounced the leader’s use of derogatory language to incite the public against the ECP chairman, as an “attempt to damage the upcoming electoral process and constitute a clear contempt for the committee”. (ANI)
