New Delhi [India]June 10 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Matmara Cyril Ramaphosa had a phone conversation on Saturday and discussed bilateral cooperation including BRICS.

The two leaders discussed bilateral, regional and global issues, including BRICS cooperation. In an official press release today, the Prime Minister’s Office said the two leaders reviewed progress in bilateral cooperation rooted in long-established and strong people-to-people ties.

The foreign ministers of emerging economies such as Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) recently gathered in Cape Town to participate in the June 1-2 meeting.

The current presidency, South Africa, hosted the BRICS foreign ministers meeting in the South African capital.

During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi thanked the South African president for transferring 12 cheetahs to India earlier this year.

They also exchanged views on a number of regional and global issues of mutual concern, including BRICS cooperation during South Africa’s presidency this year, the official press release said.

President Ramaphosa briefed Prime Minister Modi on African leaders’ peace initiative. The Prime Minister reiterated India’s insistence on dialogue and diplomacy as the best course of action, noting India’s support for all efforts to ensure lasting peace and stability in Ukraine.

During India’s current G20 presidency, President Ramaphosa expressed his full support for its initiative and expressed his excitement for his upcoming visit to India. The two leaders agreed to stay in touch. (Arnie)
