WASHINGTON, March 7 (PTI) — US First Lady Dr. Jill Biden on Monday called Republican presidential hopeful Nikki Haley’s proposal that candidates over 75 should undergo a mental ability test “ridiculous”.
“Ridiculous,” Dr. Biden told CNN in an interview when asked about such an offer from the Indian-American Haley, who announced her bid for the presidency on Feb. 14.

Haley’s proposal drew national attention but was slammed by Republican and Democratic leaders.
Haley, the two-term governor of South Carolina, is 51, while President Joe Biden would be 82 at the time of his inauguration in 2025 if he is re-elected in the November 2024 election.
Already the oldest president in U.S. history, Biden has yet to announce his 2024 decision, but will most likely soon. The leading Republican presidential candidate, Donald Trump, is only a few years younger than Biden.
Throughout her presidential campaign thus far, Haley has been preparing young people and a new generation for leadership. “We would never even discuss something like this,” Dr. Jill Biden said when asked about such proposals from Republican politicians.
“How many 30-year-olds can go to Poland, get on a train, sit another nine hours, go to Ukraine, meet President Zelensky? Look at this guy. Look at what he’s doing. Look at what he keeps saying every day to do,” she said, referring to the president’s recent visits to Ukraine and Poland.
