World News | Rishi Sunak will beat Liz Truss if UK PM polls are held now, survey finds

LONDON, Oct. 18 (PTI) Former Indian Prime Minister Rishi Sunak will beat his rival Liz Truss if the Conservative Party leadership election is held now. New polls on Tuesday.

A YouGov poll of Conservative Party members found that 55% would now vote for Sunak, 42, if they could vote again, while only 25% would vote for Truss.

“As the ongoing political chaos in Westminster grabs the headlines, a new poll of Conservative Party members by YouGov Political Research has found that members of the party are deeply remorseful about their decision to elect Liz Truss leader in September. ,” said the YouGov analysis.

YouGov also found that a majority (55%) of members believe that Truss should resign as party leader and prime minister after a series of U-turns, with only 38% believing she should stay.

A whopping 83% of Conservative Party members said Truss had underperformed as prime minister, with 72% voting for her in the leadership election that ended with her victory more than a month ago. Only 15% thought she was doing well.
