WASHINGTON, Jan. 30 (PTI) — Repeated attacks in gurdwara, North Carolina, USA have sparked shock and panic among local communities who are demanding a detailed investigation into the vandalism.

Last fall, litter was littering around the Gurdwara Sahib Khalsa Darbar grounds on East Arrowood Road in Charlotte, North Carolina, a Sikh named Ajay Singh told local newspaper The Charlotte Observer.

In another incident, community members found a security camera damaged and a window near the gurdwara worship room was destroyed on January 3 this year, the report said.

Two days later, a window near a children’s room was broken, Singh said in the report.

“It’s shocking to go through something like this. We’re a small community in Charlotte…” Singer said.

Singh said community members reported the incident to the police following a string of incidents.

However, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police said there were no police reports to Gurdwara on East Arrowood Road between December 1, 2022 and January 13, 2023.

“We need to step up enforcement,” the report quoted Gurdwara member Pawanjit Singh as saying.

Community members have set up a GoFundMe page to help cover damage costs and install security fencing and gates, the report added.

According to the 2021 American Community Survey, in North Carolina, there are approximately 6,900 Sikhs among its 10.5 million residents.
