NEW YORK, April 24 (AP) — A small 3.6-magnitude earthquake shook parts of upstate New York Sunday afternoon. No major damage was immediately reported.
The US Geological Survey reported that the quake struck at 2:10 p.m. and was centered about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of Watertown, near the center of Adams.
People reported weak to moderate quakes were felt in an area stretching more than a hundred miles, including neighboring Ontario, Canada, and Syracuse in the south, according to the federal agency. Posters on WWNY-TV’s Facebook page described their homes shaking close to the epicenter.
Earthquakes with a magnitude of around 5.5 or higher usually do not cause significant damage and loss of life. (Associated Press)
