Bucharest [Romania], Jan. 21 (ANI): Social media influencer Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate will remain in police custody until Feb. 27. This came while a Romanian court extended his detention on Friday, Tate’s lawyer told CNN affiliate Antena 3.

The brothers are currently under investigation on human trafficking and rape charges.

Police executed search warrants at five homes and detained four suspects, two Britons and two Romanians, as part of the investigation, according to Romanian authorities.

Romania’s Investigative Directorate for Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) initially said the four suspects had been detained for 24 hours.

However, a Bucharest court accepted DIICOT’s application to detain Tate and his brother Tristan for a further 30 days, their lawyer Eugen Vidineac said on December 30. The detention has now been extended until February 27, CNN reported.

DIICOT said the four suspects formed an organized crime group that stretched from Romania to the United Kingdom and the United States in order to commit human trafficking crimes.

Recently, seven additional properties were searched as part of the investigation, bringing the total number of properties investigated to 12.

Authorities said two of the suspects misled police “into believing they intended to enter into a marriage/cohabitation relationship” while transporting the victims to Romania, where they were subsequently subjected to physical violence and coercive sexual exploitation, CNN reported.

One of the suspects raped a victim on two separate occasions in March 2022, according to authorities. “At least six victims are alleged to have been sexually exploited by an organized criminal group,” a DIICOT statement said.

On December 30, Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate were arrested in Romania as part of an investigation into a human trafficking case.

DIICOT is reportedly responsible for the raid. Romanian news outlet Libertatea was quoted by Sport Bible as saying his home had been searched for the abduction of the two girls.

Known for his controversial behavior on social media, Tate was a former kickboxing athlete with a 76-9 record in his kickboxing career, according to the British sports bible.

The social media influencer was recently embroiled in a heated Twitter spat with Swedish activist Greta Thunberg that went viral.

Tate, known for his many misogynistic remarks, started the debate by tagging Thunberg in a tweet about his 33 cars and their emissions, which would cause pollute.

Tate tweeted, “Hi @GretaThunberg I have 33 cars. My Bugatti has w16 8.0L quad turbo. My two Ferrari 812 competiziones have 6.5L v12s. This is just the beginning. Please provide your email address so I can send a full list of my car collection and their respective colossal emissions.”

To this, Thunberg responded with a harsh jab and wrote: “Yes please enlighten me. Email me smalldickenergy@getalife.com,” she replied in a quoted tweet. (Arnie)
